Black Adam’s data at the box office at its premiere, challenging DC’s “hierarchy of power” with victory

While his true impact on the DCEU remains to be seen, Dwayne Johnson has, as he has long said, challenged the “hierarchy of power” in film with Black Adam and his strong weekend global box office win with $140 million raised.

As reported by Box Office Mojo, Black Adam earned $67 million at the box office in the United States and another $73 million in the other countries where it also opened for a total of $140 million. This was enough to beat the $53.5 million opening of Shazam! and stand right next to the $67.8 million of Aquaman.

Julia Roberts and George Clooney's Ticket to Paradise placed second with $96.6 million globally.

Black Adam cost $195 million to produce. before commercialization, so it still has some way to go to recover its costs. However, one milestone it has achieved is become the best premiere of Dwayne Johnsonapart from the $68.1 million for The Mummy Returns and various Fast & Furious movies. As the lead in a movie, it’s the best opening he’s ever had.

In our review of Black Adam, we said that “it goes overboard to the point where it’s hard to enjoy the debut of DC’s antihero. half-hearted about what it means to be a hero is lost in all the noise.”
