Angela Bassett has made history by becoming the first star of the Marvel Cinematic Universe to receive an Oscar nomination for a comic book adaptation.
Although several Marvel actors and actresses have received Academy Awards in the past for other films (such as Brie Larson in Room and Natalie Portman in Black Swan), neither have been nominated for their performance in a Marvel film.
However, with the Oscar nominations being announced today, Bassett has changed all that. thanks to her best supporting actress nomination for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
Angela Bassett interpreta a Ramonda en Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, a character who is not only facing his role as the new monarch, but also the death of his son T’Challa. The film also received a nomination for Best Original Song, Best Makeup and Hairstyling, and Best Costume Design.
the movie and the role of Angela Bassett certainly caused a sensationas earlier this month she also became the first actress in a Marvel movie to win a Golden Globe, again for best supporting actress.
You can read our review of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever here, where we commented that it “is most effective when it pays homage to its fallen king, and solid performances from the cast keep it afloat through its occasionally hectic plot.”
