Ancelotti talks about The Best award with Scaloni and Guardiola

On February 27, at a ceremony to be held in Paris, the best FIFA Men’s Coach in 2022 will be awarded. Premio The Best on this occasion they are Carlo Ancelotti, Josep Guardiola and Lionel Scaloni. The Real Madrid strategist was consulted about the imminent award ceremony and had a witty response at a press conference.

When they asked him who he thought had done more merit to take over the award, he mentioned: I speak in the third person. There are three coaches who have had great success this season and I think all three deserve to win. Win just one. Whoever doesn’t win it, he won’t have to do anything other than congratulate the one he wins.”.

The 63-year-old Italian, who has just established himself with Madrid in the Club World Cup, took over the last edition of the Champions League. For his part, Guardiola was nominated for his brilliant work at Manchester City, which won the last Premier League. The third trio is the Argentine Scaloni, who gave the Olympic tour with his National Team in the World Cup in Qatar.

A panel of experts chose a total of five coaches who passed through the filter of an international jury made up of colleagues from the men’s national teams, as well as the respective captains of each team, journalists and even fans. The period analyzed for delivery was from August 8, 2021 to December 18, 2022 (the day of the World Cup final between Argentina and France).

Ancelotti is one of only seven people to have won the men’s Champions League both as a player and as a manager. The others are Miguel Muñoz, Giovanni Trapattoni, Johan Cruyff, Frank Rijkaard, Pep Guardiola and Zinedine Zidane.

One of the burning issues that Ancelotti faced at the conference was the scandal that broke out in Spain over the alleged payments from Barcelona to a former vice president of the Referees Commission. When asked if he had anything to say about the case of José María Enríquez Negreira, he was blunt: “Nothing to say.” And then he did delve a bit into the transparency that Spanish football must have: “That people doubt the competition is not a good thing. Sport is something that always has to be fair and we all try to work so that the game is fair”.
