Because in addition to Will (ankle injury), Michael Akoto (25) due to tendinitis and Julius Kade (23) with problems in the hamstrings are also absent until further notice.

It is unlikely, to say the least, that one of the three will be used against Viktoria Köln on Saturday. Maximal Kade could possibly still get fit – but would have neither training nor real match practice.

In Paderborn against Verl, Will started with youth player Jonas Oehmichen (18), who is actually a bit more offensive than on the “six”. “‘Oehmi’ is still an ‘U19’ player, has the opportunity to train and the situation was such that we brought him in,” explains Dynamo’s coach and finds words of praise for his protégé:

“I think the boy did it very well, found great solutions.”

Almost ten minutes earlier, however, Claudio Kammerknecht (23) came on for Niklas Hauptmann (26), who placed himself next to Will in defensive midfield. After his failure, Oehmichen advanced to the captain’s position.

And there he knew how to convince, wasn’t afraid and drew attention to himself with dribbling, assertiveness, rip-off and defensive actions.

The 92nd and 94th minutes are representative of this: First he cleverly got hold of a free kick deep in the Loser half, only to stop an attack by the home side two minutes later in his own penalty area with a tackle.

Beginning: “It’s nice when we can integrate our own youth player. He got a few minutes in Oldenburg, now even more in a difficult phase. At the age of 19 he did it quite well. That he us in such situations in the 1st team can help, that’s nice.”

Is he allowed to do it against Cologne? It cannot be ruled out, but it is more likely that central defender Lewald (23) will move to midfield and Kammerknecht or Kevin Ehlers (22) to central defense – as they had already played at the end of 2022.
