The whereabouts of the 31-year-old is still unclear, it was a mix-up, said his adviser Nana Sechere and Club Hatayspor on Wednesday.
“As you can imagine, this continues to be a devastating time for his family and we are doing everything we can to locate Christian,” Sechere wrote on Twitter.
It was initially reported on Tuesday that Atsu could be recovered alive, which was confirmed by the Ghana Football Association (GFA), among others.

Hatayspor’s coach Volkan Demirel (41) told the Spor Arena portal that not only Atsu was still missing, but also sporting director Taner Savut (48).
Atsu, a former player for Premier League clubs Chelsea FC and Newcastle United, joined Hatayspor from the Turkish Süper Lig in September.
