Frankfurt am Main – The SSC Naples was a size too big: Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt had to present himself yesterday Tuesday evening in the Champions League 0:2 give up. Frankfurt’s head coach Oliver Glasner (48) spoke afterwards of his team’s deserved defeat.

The Austrian analyzed after the lost home game that his players did not capitalize on good situations in the first 30 minutes. “Then we make too many mistakes of our own, first for corner kicks and then for penalties. Before the 0-1 we make the next mistake,” continued the 48-year-old, who had already expressed great respect for SSC Napoli before the game.

Even after his team’s defeat, Glasner said the Italian players had “incredible self-confidence” and that they “deserved to win”.

“We have to acknowledge that we made too many mistakes,” emphasized the Frankfurt coach again self-critically. But he also added: “We’re disappointed now, but we’re not sticking our heads in the sand.”

Frankfurt’s sports director Markus Krösche (42) also emphasized that the Adler had played against a “really good team”. Although he also found that mistakes had been made, the 42-year-old also praised the Frankfurt players.

They “did it well” when, after the red card for top striker Randal Kolo Muani (24), “defended against it outnumbered” and “defended properly”.

Goalkeeper Kevin Trapp (32), who had proven his skills with a saved penalty in the game despite two Italian goals, defended his teammates after the game: “We have a very good team against a very good team It was a decent game. When you play a man down for 25 minutes against an opponent like that, it’s going to be very difficult.”

Of course the result was “not ideal”, but the 32-year-old added: “If you look at the atmosphere outside and what this team is capable of, we are able to turn this result around.”

“That’s encouraging,” added the keeper – presumably with a view to the Champions League second leg against SSC Napoli on March 15 at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.
