Erzgebirge Aue: Antonio Jonjic and honesty – “Don’t do that shit for fun”

Aue player Antonio Jonjic (23) made headlines after an MDR interview. He said openly and honestly, “I don’t do all this shit for fun.”

Oh – The violets love the floodlights! He played three times FC Erzgebirge Aue in this calendar year in the evening, three times at the end it was 2:1 – in Ingolstadtagainst Mannheim and now in Wiesbaden. Antonio Jonjic (23) is one of the goalscorers three times. After the victory in Hesse, he made headlines across Germany with an MDR interview. He was only one thing: Honest!

shut your mouth? Not Antonio Jonjic (23). Aue's striker wears his heart on his sleeve and says what's on his mind. That doesn't go down well with everyone, but at least it's honest.

The 23-year-old also scored in the 4-0 win over Bayreuth. Means: If he hits in 2023, Aue wins. So he was asked if he was enjoying it at the moment. “What’s fun?” he asked back, scratching his head.

Then he started: “I don’t do all this shit for fun. I do it because I have to. That’s my job. That’s my only future. That’s why I rip my ass open every day. It’s simple.” , he says.

The MDR put this sequence on the social networks and then the post went off – Shitstorm! Many football romantics could not understand at all what Jonjic was saying.

But football and romance are now two words that are almost mutually exclusive. Soccer is a very big industry and the professionals are me-AGs.

Players like Jonjic’s captain Martin Männel (34), who has been with the club for 15 years, is more of a dying breed. There aren’t many left who remain loyal to one club for the rest of their sporting life.

Aue player Antonio Jonjic makes a clear statement in the MDR interview:

Jonjic really thrives under Pavel Dotchev (57).

The professionals have ten to 15 years to build up something financially. They go where they earn well, where they earn more than before. It was the same with Jonjic.

He wanted to leave in the summer, the contract with the Polish first division club Gornik Zabrze was almost signed. Aue the fee was not enough, he had to stay. A bit defiant, several injuries, Jonjic was hardly to be seen in the first half of the season.

Now he’s thriving under Pavel Dotchev (57) – four goals in six appearances. With his stalls he is again in the shop window for larger, more financially lucrative clubs. If he keeps snapping, that’s good for the FCE and for him.

In addition, Jonjic is a guy who wears his heart on his sleeve. He doesn’t think about how his sentences are received. He says she. Such professionals are rare. That’s better than the watered-down answers from model pros after games that just bore you but don’t spark a shitstorm.
