Even Boss Watzke intervenes: BVB absolutely wants to keep this player!

Dortmund – He was considered a candidate for sale and is suddenly one of the most important players in BVB’s ongoing wave of success. Julian Brandt (26) has been in top form in recent games. Understandable that Borussia Dortmund now wants to extend the contract with the national player.

Six goals and four assists in 20 league games. The form curve of the 26-year-old is pointing upwards more and more steeply. In the last six games he has been involved in five goals, scoring three himself.

The attitude and creativity that he was otherwise criticized for changed significantly for the better, as head coach Edin Terzic (40) also noted.

“Jule has developed extremely this season. He’s one of our most consistent players,” enthused the 40-year-old about the former problem child.

His move to BVB was considered almost certain: will the deal burst on the home stretch?

Brandt hits the nail on the head – also in terms of the team. After losing the ball, he sprints back into his own half and puts tackles on the center line. Passion and commitment that the 26-year-old was missing a few months ago.

Thanks in part to him, BVB is on a real form high and is the only team to have the Bundesliga each of his won six (compulsory) games in 2023.

Dortmund, who often play too inconsistently, haven’t had six wins in a row for a long time. BVB’s last real winning streak was almost two years ago.

At that time, Borussia won a whopping eight games in a row from April to the end of the season and were also crowned DFB Cup winners. Coach then, as now: Edin Terzic.

Similar successes are also within the realm of possibility this year. BVB is still in the running in both the DFB Cup and the Champions League (Chelsea FC/Wednesday, 9 p.m.). Thanks to the performances of the past few weeks, Borussia will also have a chance of winning a title in the league. The gap to the “big” FC Bayern is currently three points.

Also thanks to that Julian Brandt, who has developed from a sales candidate to an important building block. The BVB bosses should be paid for this. According to information from “Sport1”, Borussia now wants to extend the contract that expires in June 2024. Club boss Hans-Joachim Watzke (63) is said to have even intervened “personally” to honor the 26-year-old’s achievements.

It is unclear whether Julian Brandt is also interested in extending his contract or sees his sporting future elsewhere.
