FC Bayern will lose to Borussia when Yann Sommer returns to Mönchengladbach

Yann Sommer should certainly not have imagined his return like this! The keeper went bankrupt with FC Bayern at Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Moenchengladbach – This is certainly not how Yann Sommer imagined his return to his old place of work! The keeper has with the FC Bayern Munich at Borussia Monchengladbach suffered a 2:3 (1:1) defeat.

Sommer had to experience the first blow to the neck for the record champions, who started the duel with a lot of momentum after the victory in the Champions League against Paris Saint-Germain, in the sold-out Borussia Park.

After a long shot from their own half, Alassane Pléa and Dayot Upamecano stormed towards the Swiss’s goal. The running duel came to an abrupt end shortly before the Munich penalty area through a contact between the central defender and the Gladbacher – and that had consequences!

Referee Tobias Welz didn’t hesitate for long, decided on the emergency brake and accordingly showed Upamecano the red card (8th minute).

The Frenchman and his teammates stood stunned on the field for several minutes while video referee Tobias Stieler carefully checked the scene. Then it was clear: Bayern had to make do with one man less for more than 80 minutes against courageous foals!

Sommer, der officially adopted before the game had been, do nothing.

FC Bayern is falling behind! Lars Stindl puts Borussia Mönchengladbach in the lead

After a free-kick variant that Munich caught on the wrong foot, it was Lars Stindl who came to the ball from the inside right on the edge of the penalty area and welded the leather ball precisely into the lower right corner. The Bayern keeper made a long move, but couldn’t get to the ball, which whizzed over the line from the inside of the post to give Gladbach a 1-0 lead (13′).

And the hosts almost did it again: Manu Koné was able to defend himself on the left side of the penalty area and had an eye for Stindl, who, unchallenged, missed the goal with his right foot by a hair’s breadth on the penalty spot (24′). That should have been 2:0!

After that, however, the hosts didn’t always really understand how to do something with one more player. Despite being outnumbered, the record champions fought back with a lot of effort and rewarded themselves with the equalizer in the first round.

Davies ignited the turbo on the left, pulled through almost to the baseline and finally put the ball back into the penalty area, where Choupo-Moting was once again on the spot, maneuvering it over the line to make it 1-1 (35 ‘).

It stayed that way in a varied and, above all, turbulent first half, in which Sommer was unable to excel.

Julian Nagelsmann made a clear statement with the substitutions of Jamal Musiala (for Ryan Gravenberch) and Leroy Sané (Serge Gnabry) at the beginning of the second period, a shot from Joshua Kimmich hissed wide (49th).

After that, the focus was again on summer, which you could feel a little sorry for this Saturday.

After Musiala made a technical error, Hofmann switched at lightning speed and sent Pléa into the penalty area on the right. The offensive player unselfishly put the ball back to the approaching Hofmann, who threw in an untenable shot for Sommer to make it 2-1 (55′).

The third serious hit that afternoon was ultimately the knockout for Sommer and his Bayern team. The Nagelsmann-Elf tried everything until the last minute to equalize again, but they didn’t succeed. The forces also dwindled rapidly.

Instead, Gladbach increased to 3:1 (84th) in the final phase – and this goal was also preceded by an inadequacy of Sommers in front. Daley Blind, who was in the starting eleven for the first time, looked bad in a defensive action, Hofmann switched the fastest, prevailed on the right and put back to Marcus Thuram, who executed.

In added time, after a goal by Mathys Tel (90+3), things got exciting again for a short time, but in the end the record champions lost, who are still struggling a lot in the league this year.
