Former The Legend of Zelda director Kentaro Tominaga is working on an open world RPG called Infinity Nikki.
As reported by Kotaku, Tominaga is in charge of the game at developer PaperGames after having worked as a designer on The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and as director of its Expansion Pass.
Infinity Nikki has an almost Disney aesthetic mixed with anime and a core gameplay loop of exploring a colorful open world filled with puzzles and platforming.
The protagonist, Nikki, can change outfits to perform different abilities and tasks, and as the reveal trailer (above) shows, this will include activities like fishing, cooking, and catching bugs.
“Join Momo and Nikki as they embark on a new adventure collecting various pieces of clothing, solving puzzles, and discovering secret areas of the world,” the ad reads. “Dress the part and equip yourself with different outfits to access abilities like fishing, catching bugs, and hovering.”
The Nikki franchise started on mobile with Nikki UP2U: A Dressing Story as a much simpler 2D dress up game, and has since gone on to have three more titles, all of them on mobile. However, this will change with Infinity Nikki, who is confirmed for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and PC along with Android and iOS devices. At the moment no release date or window has been shared.
