Henry Cavill is officially back as Superman, and the actor himself has confirmed it by stating that this is just the beginning.
Warning: Black Adam spoilers ahead.
As Dwayne Johnson proudly announced ahead of the premiere of his new DC movie, Black Adam, Henry Cavill appears in the post-credits scene after the movie as Superman in a cameo.
Following the premiere of the film this weekend, Cavill has officially announced his return on his Instagram account, posting a message for fans.
“I wanted to make it official that I’m back as Superman and the image you see in this post and what you’ve seen in Black Adam are a very small sample of what is to come,” says Cavill. He has also thanked the fans for his support and promises that everything will be “rewarded”.
A sequel to Superman starring Cavill is already in development, according to recent reports.
While Superman has been dominating the Black Adam news cycle, Johnson’s entry into the DCEU represents something of a new direction for DC under Warner Bros. Discovery. Previous reports claimed that focusing on high-profile characters like Superman would be one of the new owners’ goals and Johnson himself has been playing up the Black Adam vs. Superman angle during press tours.
Black Adam also introduces the Justice Society of America as a new team of superheroes in the DC Cinematic Universe. Coupled with the continued separate storylines of Shazam, Aquaman, and any potential changes to the universe following The Flash, all of this could lead to a new status quo for the DCEU.
