Lockwood & Co. Season 2: Release Date, Cast Members, Storyline, and Everything You Need to Know

I believe it might be time to start becoming at least a little bit cautious about the prospective renewal of the new ghost-hunting thriller Lockwood and Co. on Netflix.

To begin with, Lockwood and Co. have not yet received an official announcement from Netflix regarding its cancellation or renewal for a second season. However, as I see the show’s performance, I’m a little worried.

Why? Well, there’s the obvious: innumerable YA shows on Netflix have been cancelled in the past, with very few surviving to a second or third season. Lockwood and Company appear to be exactly the kind of programme that Netflix is likely to cancel, thus it would take pretty extraordinary performance to catch people’s attention.

Lockwood & Co. Season 2

It isn’t performing as well as I would like. Lockwood & Co. launched at a respectable #2 on the top 10 list, however, it never reached the top spot and is now falling quickly; after just over a week after its release, it is now down to #5 in the US. Again, not terrible, but most likely not great enough, and it appears that it may not be receiving the necessary word-of-mouth recommendations. It is currently trailing Wednesday, the hugely successful movie from November.

It is receiving favourable reviews, but Netflix has demonstrated that they don’t really value it, so even while it ought to assist in theory, its 90% critic and 94% audience scores probably won’t amount to much.

Has Lockwood & Co season 2 been confirmed?

Netflix has not yet announced whether Lockwood and Co. will be renewed. The first season of the show was first revealed in September 2017, and Netflix officially confirmed their acquisition of it in December 2020. The series then started filming in July 2021, and it would debut on the streaming service in January 2023, 18 months after that.

Lockwood & Co. season one quickly rose to the top of Netflix’s list of most-watched shows after its debut, which is good news for anyone hoping for a season two renewal.

How well is Lockwood & Co performing on Netflix?

There are several ways to check how Lockwood & Co is doing on Netflix. Let’s start with the hourly data provided by Netflix. Netflix releases 40 hourly numbers on its top titles every Tuesday in four categories.

Lockwood & Co. launched as the sixth most-watched title within its first week, according to hours seen. The show hasn’t experienced any growth as of yet, and week 3 showed a 61% decrease in viewing hours. Lockwood & Co. has accrued 79.91 million hours overall in the top 10 global rankings.

What is Lockwood & Co. Season 1 about?

The dead prowl the streets in this imagined version of the United Kingdom, where the living hide behind iron-bolstered doors. A ragtag organisation called Lockwood & Co. is formed by Lucy, George, and Lockwood among the swarms of corporate agencies who exterminate ghosts.

Together, they work to track down ghosts and eliminate their power source while narrowly avoiding the ghosts’ lethal touch. The stakes appear to be getting more and higher with each new spirit from the opposing side they face, including non-human adversaries.

Joe Cornish is the show’s writer and director, and Ruby Stokes, Cameron Chapman, and Ali Hadji-Heshmati play the main characters.

The cast of Lockwood & Co. season 2

Most of the following cast members should return for season two if Netflix decides to renew Lockwood & Co:

  • Ruby Stokes as Lucy Carlyle
  • Cameron Chapman as Anthony Lockwood
  • Ali Hadji-Heshmati as George Karim
  • Michael Clarke as Skull
  • Ivanno Jeremiah as Inspector Barnes
  • Luke Treadaway as The Golden Blade
  • Morven Christie as Penelope Fittes
  • Jemma Moore as Annabel Ward
  • Jack Bandeira as Quill Kipps
  • Ben Crompton as Julius Winkman
  • Hayley Konadu as Flo Bones
  • Rhianna Dorris as Kat Godwin
  • Paddy Holland as Bobby Vernon
  • Rico Vina as Ned Shaw

If Julius Winkman manages to escape prison following what transpired in the season one finale, Ben Crompton might reprise his role as Julius Winkman.

Luke Treadaway, who played the mysterious mercenary known as the Golden Blade and had connections to Lockwood’s deceased parents, will very probably make a comeback in season two. And as a result, it’s possible that we’ll also catch a peek at the parents themselves, perhaps in the form of ghosts or flashbacks. But it’s yet unclear how they might be cast.

Lockwood & Co season 2 plot

The first arc’s conclusion of Lockwood & Co left a few things open-ended. What probably occurred to Lockwood’s parents is foremost among them. Although we learn that they are both dead at the beginning of the series, Anthony’s meeting with the Golden Blade suggests that there is much more to their tale than first appears. Even Anthony himself is currently unaware of anything that is happening.

The other major plot point that begs for an explanation is Lockwood’s enigmatic room upstairs. He has kept it tightly locked up the entire season and has cautioned the others not to try to peek inside. But after eight episodes, Anthony believes it’s time to let his comrades in and reveal what he’s been keeping hidden.

The door swings open just as the credits start to roll, so the details of this room are now unknown. Either Lockwood is concealing something extremely embarrassing, or he is actually defending the others from a hidden danger.

Although we lean towards the latter, it’s still unclear what exactly this could be. Maybe there’s a portal of some sort, or maybe there’s another magical object that’s in some way even riskier than the mirror. Or perhaps, just perhaps, Lockwood’s parents are mummified and put inside. At this point, anyone’s guess is valid.

The expected release date for Lockwood & Co. season 2

Although the programme hasn’t been confirmed yet, as indicated, taking inspiration from the previous series… The first scenes were shot in July 2021, and they were released on the streaming service in January 2023, 18 months later. So, if the second season was announced soon after the first season aired, might we perhaps anticipate the release of season two in the middle of 2024? Cross your fingers!

When can I watch the second season trailer for Lockwood & Co. season 2?

Without Lucy’s “hearing” ability or any other psychic ability for that matter, we are unable to predict exactly how Lockwood & Co. will develop in the future. That implies that since no footage has been captured, we have nothing to post just yet.

But if season 2 is confirmed, we can presumably anticipate the first teaser trailer to debut in early 2024.
