The trailer establishes from the beginning the intense tone of the film and previews some of the places Oppenheimer’s story will take viewers when the film opens in theaters on July 21, 2023.
“We imagine a future, and our imaginations horrify us,” says Murphy’s Oppenheimer. “They won’t fear it until they understand it, and they won’t understand it until they’ve used it. Theory will only get you so far. I don’t know if we can be trusted with such a weapon, but we have no choice. Is anyone going to say any ever the truth about what’s going on here?”
The film is based on the book American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Rober Oppenheimer, by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin, and was shot in “a combination of 65mm IMAX and 65mm wide-format motion picture photography. including, for the first time, IMAX sections of analog black-and-white photography.”
Speaking of scoops, Christopher Nolan and the team behind Oppenheimer have recreated the world’s first atomic explosion. without using CGI for the movie, and this will be just another example of Nolan preferring practical effects to CGI.
