The 49-year-old is supposed to achieve what predecessor Joe Enochs (51) was no longer expected to do: keep the class. If “Schorsch” in tandem with his assistant trainer Robin Lenk (38) gets the lurching West Saxons back on track, that would be a story in itself.

Two natives of the Erzgebirge, with a long Aue past, are supposed to keep professional football alive in Zwickau. Thielemann played for the FCE from 1992 to 1999 and later worked like Lenk in the Au youth team.

When asked about his own background, whether there were verbal digs from Aue and whether the derby on March 14 was already haunting the back of his mind, Thielemann had to smile mightily: “I’m not thinking until this date at first because there are still a few games in between. Who here grew up in the area knows it’s the most important game for both clubs. We played a great game in Aue in the first half of the season. Now we have to be successful enough to make it a real celebration again. “

What is striking: Thielemann immediately serves the “we feeling” when he talks about the first leg, which took place in September.

It fits the impression that the new FSV coach gave from the first second. He dedicates himself to the club with every fiber, tries to put himself in the shoes of what makes Zwickau special and what football stands for.

Of course, these are the basic virtues “attitude, mentality and the ability to suffer”.

In addition, the West Saxons score on the human component. Thielemann wants to contribute there with his strengths, which he describes as follows: “I’m very communicative. It’s important to me what the other person thinks and feels. But I’m also willing to make decisions in the interests of success, the team.”

He is a family type, with the team becoming a kind of substitute family in football, says Thielemann. He moved the center of his life to Zwickau immediately after his engagement was confirmed.
