Seth Rogen has admitted that he’s not a huge fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but he’s grateful for its success because allows superhero shows like The Boys to exist.

Speaking to Total Film, the executive producer of The Boys has stated that, although he has always liked comics, he considers that the films of the Marvel Cinematic Universe they are geared towards children, so he himself does not enjoy them.

However, their prominence as more family-friendly installments leaves room for a countermovement to exist, Rogen said, allowing mature superhero stories like The Boys to rise in popularity as well.

“I think Kevin Feige is a brilliant guy, and I think a lot of the filmmakers he’s hired to make these movies are great filmmakers. But as someone who doesn’t have kids, it’s all geared toward kids,” she said.

When The Boys comic came out, Rogen said that he and fellow executive producer Evan Goldberg “had the same experience that I think audiences are having now, which is, ‘Oh, we’ve been reading Marvel for the last few 15 years and now things like this are starting to happen, which is a great addition to this picture‘”.

“It’s the same genre but without taking into account the younger audience in the slightest. In any case, it is much more oriented to the adult public“.

Rogen continues: “I think just as naturally as The Boys fell into the comic book store landscape as a comic, we thought it would fit well into the media landscape as a TV series. But the truth is, without Marvel, The Boys would not exist or be interesting. I am aware of it”.
