A new Spider-Man spin-off based on Marvel’s Silk character is headed to Prime Video.
Angela Kangwho served as showrunner on The Walking Dead, will direct Silk: Spider Society, which also features Phil Lord y Chris Miller of Spider-Man: A New Universe, as well as with the head of Sony, Amy Pascalas executive producers.
“I am delighted to join the Amazon Studios family in this new chapter of my career,” said Kang. “I am looking forward to working with the executive team on diverse character series for a global audience and am very excited to dive into my first challenge: bringing the Korean-American superhero Silk to life on screen.”
The series is based on the character of Cindy Moon, aka Silk, a Korean American heroine who was bitten by the same spider that bit Peter Parkerendowing her with spider-sense, web-slinging abilities, and superhuman strength, speed, and agility.
Silk was originally created by comic creators Dan Slott and Humberto Ramos.
Also, Silk: Spider Society will be the first in a series of Spider-Man spin-offs coming to Prime Video as part of a multi-series deal.
“Amy Pascal, Phil Lord, Chris Miller and the recent live-action and animated reimagining of the Spider-Man franchise have delivered one of the most dynamic superhero stories in cinema,” said Amazon Studios Head Jennifer Salke. “Coupled with the creative vision of Angela Kang, we couldn’t be more excited to bring Silk: Spider Society to our Prime Video customers.”
The project was first revealed to be in development back in 2020, as part of Sony’s efforts to build its own Spider-Verse.
Since then, the character of Cindy Moon has already debuted in live action: Sidekick to Tom Holland’s Peter Parker in recent Marvel movies Spider-Man: Homecoming and Avengers: Infinity War.
It is unknown if the original actress, Tiffany Espensen, will return for the series.or if the role will simply be taken by another actress.
