These two Marvel series may be the only ones to hit Disney+ throughout 2023, despite announcing six

While the big Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase 5 reveal at San Diego Comic-Con 2022 revealed that six series would be coming to Disney+ in 2023, that number could be reduced to just twowith Loki Season 2 and Secret Invasion the only “sure bets” for this year.

As reported by THR, this news comes after comments from Disney CEO Bob Iger, in which he said that the company needed to prioritize its franchise content more for being “extraordinarily expensive.”

Marvel content obviously doesn’t come cheap, and Disney was planning to potentially release season two of Loki, Secret Invasion, What If…, Ironheart, Echo, and Agatha: Coven of Chaos in 2023. If these changes were to performed, sources say that Loki and Secret Invasion could be the only ones to be released, despite the fact that series like Echo and Ironheart have concluded their filming months ago.

“There’s going to be a level of rigor at Marvel and across the company,” says a company source. “Numbers matter now, and costs are going to be profiled and enforced.”

For comparison, Marvel Studios released four movies and five series in 2021 and three movies and three series in 2022.

Star Wars, on the other hand, is looking to ramp up its production.especially on the film front, as the last Star Wars project to hit the big screen was 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. We should know more about Lucasfilm’s plans at Star Wars Celebration in April, but it’s has confirmed that a Taika Waititi movie is on the way and another is reportedly being directed by Lost’s Damon Lindelof.

As for television, the third season of The Mandalorian will arrive on March 1 and Ahsoka and the Skeleton Crew could premiere later in the year.

“Lucasfilm can pick up the pace, but it will have to abide by the same fiscal discipline as the rest of the company,” the insider says.

At least MCU fans will be able to hit theaters this weekend to see Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which you can read our review of here.
