At the heart of Transformers One is the origin story of Optimus Prime and Megatron, exploring their transition from close friends to bitter rivals. The film will take place entirely on Cybertron, showing the planet in a way never depicted on the big screen. Audiences will witness the early days of Orion Pax, who will eventually become the heroic Autobot leader Optimus Prime, and D-16, the future Decepticon commander Megatron.
The two young Transformers start as maintenance bots before stumbling upon a dark conspiracy that threatens to tear their friendship apart and change the fate of Cybertron forever. As they are drawn into this conflict, Orion and D-16 will be forced to choose sides, leading them down vastly different paths that transform them into the iconic Optimus Prime and Megatron that fans know and love. Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura has compared the film’s exploration of Cybertron’s destruction to the downfall of Krypton in the Superman mythos. Transformers One will provide crucial insight into the early days of the Autobot-Decepticon war that has been hinted at but never fully explored in previous Transformers media.
Transformers One Cast:
Transformers One boasts an impressive voice cast to bring this origin story to life. Chris Hemsworth leads the ensemble as the younger version of Optimus Prime, known here as Orion Pax. Hemsworth’s casting marks his first significant animated role, and the actor has consulted with longtime Optimus Prime voice actor Peter Cullen to ensure a seamless transition between his performance and the iconic character.
Joining Hemsworth is Brian Tyree Henry, the future Decepticon leader D-16, who will eventually become Megatron. Henry is another MCU veteran, having lent his voice to the recent Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. Scarlett Johansson voices the Autobot resistance fighter, Elita, while Keegan-Michael Key voices the young Bumblebee, known here as B-127. The cast is rounded out by acclaimed actors like Laurence Fishburne as the ancient Autobot Alpha Trion, Jon Hamm as the former Autobot leader Sentinel Prime, and Steve Buscemi in a currently undisclosed role.

Transformers One is in the hands of director Josh Cooley, who previously helmed the acclaimed Pixar film Toy Story 4. Cooley is working from a screenplay by Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari, the duo behind the 2015 Marvel film Ant-Man. They are joined by Steve Desmond and Michael Sherman, known for their work on M. Night Shyamalan’s Knock at the Cabin.
While Michael Bay, who directed many of the live-action Transformers films, is not in the director’s chair this time, he is on board as a producer alongside franchise veterans like Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Tom DeSanto, Don Murphy, and Mark Vahradian. Steven Spielberg, who has long been involved with the Transformers films, is also an executive producer. The visual effects for Transformers One are being provided by the legendary Industrial Light & Magic, who have contributed to the previous live-action installments.
