It was supposed to be a liberation, it was the opposite: The 1: 2 of TSV 1860 Munich against SV Meppen hurts – also Günther Gorenzel and Marcel Bär.

Meppen – It was supposed to be a liberation, but it turned out to be the opposite: The 1:2 defeat of TSV 1860 Munich against SV Meppen hurts – also Günther Gorenzel (51) and a visibly battered Marcel Bär (30).

“The fact is, you have to talk to the boys a lot,” Gorenzel explained after the game on BR when asked how the lions could finally get out of the crisis that could have serious consequences – should promotion go completely out of sight.

You have to communicate with the players and, according to the interim coach, encourage them. Even with the defeat in Meppen, which will certainly reverberate in the coming days, according to the 51-year-old, “everything was by no means wrong”.

In the 2-2 draw against VfB Oldenburg on the last day of the game, “things went really well”, but then received a blow in the back of the neck in added time. “Today we didn’t manage to pull the right moments onto our side,” he continued on the course of the game.

What could have gone better against Meppen?

Gorenzel focused on a better duel. His team should have put more pressure on the second balls and generally had better control of the leather. However, the lions also lacked luck in the game – which, after two shots against the post, cannot be completely dismissed.

“It’s clear that we have other things in mind,” admitted Gorenzel. However, it’s no use “banging on the boys”. According to the Austrian, you have to remind your own players of what worked in this game – and clearly show and improve all things that didn’t work.

A new strong man on the sidelines with the lions would not lack the necessary points to start. However, there seems to have been no real breakthrough in the search for a coach.

The man from Graz, who, in addition to his role as interim coach, also continues to work as managing director of the Munich team, explained with regard to this that a coaching decision would be made based on “the economic situation” of the club.

That’s why the six-year-old is in “close contact with the shareholders,” Gorenzel said, emphasizing that there are already solutions. He didn’t go into detail.

In view of poor results in the past games and slipping down to eighth place in the 3rd division, he himself is unlikely to hold the double function for much longer. Munich are already seven points behind SV Wehen Wiesbaden in third place – with one game more!

Although Gorenzel emphasized emphatically even after the painful defeat that his offer to make himself available to the club until a new trainer could be found is of course still valid.

After the bankruptcy against Meppener who had previously been without a win in 17 games, Bär was visibly battered on the BR microphone.

“The self-confidence is of course in the basement with us,” explained the lion. “Everyone can see that. Where is it supposed to come from?” The past few months have been difficult. “I think you can see that in a lot of players.” It sounds “silly”, but you just have to keep working hard. “At some point things will turn around again.”
