Xaver Schlager (25) also knows that things can’t go on like this, as he admitted in the club’s internal interview: “Two draws, two wins and one defeat – I don’t think that’s our claim. That’s not enough, we have to get back to ourselves work, maybe even a bit more than others.”

It’s now about working on the “basics” again in order to be successful in the difficult tasks ahead. The Austrian: “We’re training hard, trying to learn routines and talking openly about what we can do better. And that’s how we win at the weekend.”

The Saxons face an incredibly demanding week. On Saturday the league will go to VfL Wolfsburg (3.30 p.m. / Sky). During the week, the Champions League is announced. The opponent is none other than Manchester City.

RB Leipzig’s Xaver Schlager returns to his old place of work

For Schlager it will also be a return to his old employer on Saturday. He played for Wolves from 2019 to 2022 and is still in contact with some people.

“You see a lot of old faces, friends and companions. It brings back good memories and I’m sure I’ll laugh a lot that day! Of course it’s still about the game and we want to win it – then there will be no friends,” said the 25- year olds.

According to the midfield driver, it won’t be easy against the seventh-placed team: “It’s difficult to play against such a motivated squad – they go for it without a care and then something comes of it. That’s exactly what they’ve proven in the last few weeks.”
