Hugh Jackman notes that he actually did wrap up his role as Wolverine in the 2017 film Logan, despite numerous requests from Ryan Reynolds for him to return. However, the actor has revealed that there was a reason he decided to return as Wolverine for Deadpool 3.
“They did not torture me. When people asked me [que retomara el papel]including Ryan every five seconds, I was like, ‘I’m done,'” Jackman says in an interview with The Guardian. The actor didn’t do some soul-searching when he was asked to return for Deadpool 3, instead he accepted the role because he wanted to: “I just wanted to do it, and I felt it in my gut”.
He also added the following: “I have to beat up Ryan Reynolds every day.”
Deadpool 3 will be the first Deadpool movie made under the MCU banner, but it will still be rated 18+. The union between Deadpool and Wolverine was one of Reynolds’s first proposals when he met with Marvel’s Kevin Feige after the Fox acquisition.
“At the meeting, the issue of whether we could find a way to make the Deadpool-Wolverine pairing came up. At the time, it wasn’t possible,” but now it is.
Reynolds and Jackman have already clarified that this film won’t get in the way of Logan’s timeline. The Wolverine actor also used the occasion to confirm a major fan theory.
“It’s all because of this device that they have in the Marvel world to move between timelines,” says Jackman. “Now we can go back because, you know, it’s science. So I don’t have to mess with Logan’s timeline.something that was important to me.”
Jackman was doing interviews for his upcoming drama The Son when he was asked to reminisce about his X-Men days. There they asked him if the accusations against the director Bryan Singer had affected the legacy of those films. “It’s a very complicated question,” says Jackman. “The stakes are high. X-Men was the turning point in terms of comic book movies, and I think there’s a lot to be proud of. There are questions to ask that I think should be asked, but I guess I don’t know how to respond elegantly to that“.
Deadpool 3 is scheduled to premiere on November 8, 2024.
