The director of Joker: Folie à Deux, Todd Phillips, has shared the first image of the sequel that will see Joaquin Phoenix return as the legendary villain.

Phillips shared the image on Instagram along with the following message: “Day 1. Our boy. #joker.” In the image, the Phoenix Joker appears to be an inmate at Arkham Asylum and is being shaved by a worker there.

Joker: Folie à Deux will be released in theaters on October 4, 2024 and will feature Lady Gaga as the lead alongside Phoenix. We don’t know much about the movie yet, but it has been reported that Lady Gaga will play Harley Quinn and that the sequel could be a musical.

Joining Phoenix and Gaga will be Brendan Gleeson, star of Harry Potter and Paddington 2, and Jacob Lofland, of The Maze Runner. Although we don’t know much about Gleeson’s role yet, it is said that Lofland will play an inmate at Arkham Asylum and a friend of Arthur Fleck, aka the Joker.

The first Joker movie was released in 2019 and it was a real success. Here you can read our review.
