Insomniac Games has announced that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will launch on PlayStation 5 in Fall 2023.
Revealed in a post on the PlayStation Blog, the long-awaited sequel to 2018’s Spider-Man will apparently stick to the promised release year 2023.
“What a year it’s been for PlayStation Studios,” says Insomniac’s creative director, Bryan Intihar. “We here at Insomniac Games have been absolutely in awe of our colleagues’ work. Congratulations to everyone on a successful 2022, and we hope next year is just as exciting as we continue to prepare Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 for release this fall. “
The developer reassured fans about the October release date but, as delays are quite common in the video game industry, many were concerned that the sequel would be delayed until 2024.
Spider-Man 2 was announced by Sony as a PS5 exclusive in September 2021, promising a continuation of the story of Peter Parker and Miles Morales as they face off against a new (but familiar) foe in Venom. The villain’s voice actor promised that the “game is massive” and Marvel Entertainment Vice President Creative Bill Rosemann commented at the same time that Spider-Man 2 will be “a bit darker” than the previous two installments.
It will act as the first mainline installment in PlayStation’s Spider-Man saga since the original, but the Miles Morales spinoff released for PlayStation 4 and as a PS5 launch title in November 2020.
