The director of The Batman, Matt Reeves, will soon meet with the new CEOs of DC Studios, James Gunn and Peter Safran, to discuss how their two universes, the DCU and what is now called the BatVerse, will develop side by side.
Speaking to Collider, Matt Reeves confirmed that the BatVerso (headlined by The Batman, the movie starring Robert Pattinson) it would become its own universeindependent of the changes that are taking place in DC under his new management.
“[Gunn y Safran] they’ve been very good,” Reeves said. “Actually, we’re supposed to meet in the next few weeks because they want to talk to me about the overall plan, and then they want to hear the plan for the BatVerso.”
“We’re meeting to talk about all of that. I can’t wait to see what they’re going to do. The BatVerso thing, as James has said, and as Peter has said, it’s their own thing that they’re letting us do.”
The meeting essentially will ensure that the two universes do not overlapReeves said, since Batman will presumably appear in Gunn and Safran’s DCU as well.
“They’re going to talk to me about what they’re doing in their 10-year plan or certainly what’s in the near future as well so we can understand that we’re not running into each other,” Reeves added. “We want to support each other.”
Very little is known about the new DCU so far, though the ten-year plan is complete. Gunn has confirmed that a young Superman movie is on the way and has previously said that the character is a “big priority” for DC Studios going forward.
The BatVerso, meanwhile, is already in full swing despite the fact that only one film has been released. At least three spinoff series are reportedly in development, the first of which centers on Colin Farrell’s Penguin and will begin shooting in February.
What started out as a Gotham police-focused series has also evolved into an Arkham horror series, but both concepts are now in development as separate projects.
is also being prepared a full movie sequel, and The Batman cast and crew have shared what they’d like to explore in it. Pattinson himself wants to pick up the Court of Owls saga, while director Matt Reeves hopes to bring Mr. Freeze into his dark and gritty Batman universe.
However, it seems that this is just the beginning of a much larger BatVersoas Reeves is in talks with other directors and writers to create movies based on Batman villains like Scarecrow, Clayface and Professor Pyg.
