One of the most noticeable changes to The Last of Us series is actually canon thanks to the remake of the first game.

It is possible that, after watching the sixth episode of The Last of Us series, you have broken your head trying to remember when in the game Joel’s medical condition is discussed. You can stop doing it now, because it has been discovered that this is based on The Last of Us: Part I, the remake of the original game.

In the new episode of The Last of Us series (already available on HBO Max) we have been introduced to a fragile Joel. the character suffers multiple panic attacks on certain occasions. After her conversation with Tommy, it can be understood that the root of those attacks is concern for Ellie and finding himself unable to protect herthat’s why he asks his brother to do it.

If we start to remember each of the scenes of the original game, we see that this concern exists, that Joel wants to protect Ellie so that the same thing as his daughter Sarah does not happen to her, but no panic or anxiety attack is seen. However, players have donned their Sherlock Holmes suit to try to find out if there are any in-game details that reference Joel’s frailty.

As the GamesRadar medium points out, there is a reference, and found in The Last of Us: Part I. At the beginning of the remake we can control Sarah, who is looking for her father throughout the house. If you go to Joel’s room, go to his nightstand and use Photo Mode, you will find a small bottle labeled “Anti-Anxiety Tablets”.

This little bottle of pills gives meaning to the attacks suffered by Joel in the sixth episode of the seriesso the adaptation has not been separated from the original story on this occasion.
