There is less and less to go before the great soccer gala and, as it has done with other shortlists, FIFA announced the three finalists to be awarded the Puskás Award for the best goal of 2022. Among the candidates were those of Richarlison, Marcin Oleksy and Dimitri Payet. In the top 11 was the Argentine Francisco González Mettilli, in the victory of Central Córdoba against Rosario Central. The winner will be known on February 27.

The award Riflemanwhich began to be delivered in the 2008/09 season and will have its 14th edition, was created in honor and memory of Ferenc Puskás, captain of the Hungarian national soccer team. To select the best conquest of the calendar year, four criteria are taken into account: the aesthetics of the action, the importance of the match that was achieved, the absence of the luck factor or an error by the rival and the fair play of the protagonist.

This award, which in its first edition was won by Cristiano Ronaldo and which was also obtained by other great footballers such as James Rodriguez y Neymar Jr, has great protagonists this season. In his last installment, it was Erik Lamela who won the award for an exquisite rabona against Arsenal and a new Argentine appears on the list of nominees with chances of retaining the award.

Goal by Marcin Oleksy, candidate for the Puskas award

My partner David [Novak] made the pass When I saw him approach the ball, I knew he was coming towards me. I connected very cleanly. It was pure. When I hit him, I followed the ball with my eyes and saw how it entered the top corner. I always wanted to score a nice goal. After the goal, I felt very proud. I stood up, puffed out my chest. I was so, so happy,” the Pole explained to the official FIFA site.
