Although the Super League is still in the stars, it has made waves in football circles since its possible inception.

In his now almost legendary podcast “Einfach mal Luppen”, football star Toni Kroos from Real Madrid once again chats out of the box. His brother Felix Kroos (31) and cult commentator Frank Buschmann (58) complete the illustrious round as interlocutors.

Among other topics of the latest episode: the controversial Super League! The 106-time former German national player has a clear – and obviously sympathetic – opinion on this:

“I’m very excited or I’m pretty sure that many clubs that have turned around will also be much more open to this story. Because I’m sure that it really has great advantages,” said the native of Greifswald a potential implementation of a Super League in European club football.

The promising Super League model was launched in April 2021 by top international clubs such as Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, FC Liverpool and Juventus Turin.

With the introduction of a kind of “elite league”, the most renowned clubs in European club football wanted to measure their strength. The German flagship clubs Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, among others, postulated themselves as vehement opponents of a Super League. The “Super League” project is currently pending.

From the point of view of the real stars, the giant duels could generate more enthusiasm among the fans and thus set new stimuli in football.

Nevertheless, Kroos is also critical of the way a Super League is initially planned to be implemented.

“I don’t think the idea was really good and, above all, it was communicated very abruptly – that was overnight -” said Kroos with some distance in view of the bumpy start phase of the major project.

Despite all the understandable skepticism about the elite league, Kroos is certain that it will be introduced at some point and in whatever form. For the 33-year-old, a revised concept is visible and a new start in the league is only a matter of time.

In a relaxed atmosphere, the former Bayern player also addresses the topic of alienation in professional football. In his opinion, a Super League could help to counteract this negative development in football.

Critics counter this thesis with the fact that the appeal of football consists precisely in the rare but glorious clashes between top international clubs. Kroos, however, doesn’t see it that way at all.

“Didn’t you feel like Federer against Nadal the 50th time? I did,” replied Toni Kroos in his podcast, tellingly about the reaction of his critics.
