The Leipzig footballer Willi Orban survived his stem cell donation well. “I didn’t feel any side effects, everything went smoothly,” said the kicker of “Bild am Sonntag”.
With his donation, the necessary number of stem cells was also reached. “That’s always the question: How many cells does the body mobilize? We were successful,” explained Orban.
The Hungarian national player donated stem cells in Dresden last Wednesday. He had previously been prepared for this with special syringes.

Orban has been in the database of the German Bone Marrow Donor File (DKMS) since 2017 after the Leipzig team registered as part of a campaign.
“I sat at the machine for the maximum number of five hours, with some it only takes two. But it wasn’t uncomfortable,” said Orban. He asked a lot and informed himself extensively. “When you see what you can do with little effort, it’s a no-brainer,” said the 30-year-old.

Before the bone marrow donation, he had a somewhat queasy feeling. “But it’s really even more harmless than I thought. I’m glad I got the chance,” said Orban.
He would like to meet the recipient of his donation. “It’s exciting when you meet your genetic twin who’s out there somewhere,” he said.
For him, the donation was only a matter of a few days. “And with the other, life is hanging by a thread. That’s very emotional,” said Orban.
RB Leipzig’s sports director Eberl insulted again in the stadium: “The sow becomes a bull pig!”
RB coach Marco Rose praised Orban’s action: “We are very proud of him.” The coach did not use the defender in the 2-1 draw against Union Berlin on Saturday because he did not want to take any risks.
