Chemnitz – Favorites for the relay victory in the Northeast relay? “Others should judge that. I have no opinion on that,” says coach Christian Tiffert (40). Chemnitz FC and smiles: “It’s not a nice answer, I know. But it’s my answer.”

These sentences are three weeks old. Spoken before the start of the regional league year 2023. Tiffert suspected that all forecasts could quickly be taken ad absurdum.

Energie Cottbus, at that time four points ahead of CFC leaders, started with two bankruptcies and lost the place in the sun to promoted Erfurt.

Last year’s champion BFC Dynamo, ten points behind Cottbus at the turn of the year and in tenth place in the table, has moved up with three wins in a row and is up to one point behind the Lausitzer. Crazy regional league!

Incidentally, Tiffert had the former series champion of the GDR in mind in mid-January when he was asked about the race for promotion places.

“They had a few problems at the beginning of the season. But there’s no question that they’re a good team. The Berliners have a strong squad. With so many games and direct duels, anything is possible in the second half of the season.”

A direct duel will take place on Friday evening in Berlin-Hohenschönhausen between BFC and CFC, who have been unbeaten for eleven match days.

If the series breaks and the BFC wins, the capital club draws level with the second-placed Chemnitz on points. The fight for the championship is more exciting than it has been for a long time.
