The 2023 unbeaten streak has broken! At carnival of all times, 1. FC Köln lost 2-0 (1-0) to VfB Stuttgart.

But it wasn’t just the desolate result that provided plenty to talk about in the cathedral city that afternoon. The police also made their contribution to the botched away game by intercepting FC buses.
Just seven minutes had passed when Dias put VfB ahead with a remarkable flick and friendly help from the FC defense – 0:1 (7th)!
Effzeh then tried to equalize, but found no creative way to break through the defensive bulwark of Stuttgart in an increasingly rough game.

So not much happened. And if so, then in front of your own box! Fortunately for FC, attacker Silas missed the second goal of the afternoon after a good half hour (26′).
To the displeasure of their coach, the Cologne team lacked any punch and offensive play until the break. Only the “Kölsche Cafu” Benno Schmitz radiated something like a goal threat after a good half hour, but failed to Bredlow (26th).

After the change of sides, the guests came out of the dressing room with a lot more energy – Kainz just missed the equalizer with a free kick (51st).
But Stuttgart also came back to life and could have increased the lead through Silas (52′) or Endo (54′) – lucky for Cologne! But then there was absolutely no cure for Sosa’s “dream goal” hit! To the chagrin of the FC fans who had traveled with him, the Croatian brilliantly put a free kick over the wall and under the bar – 0:2 (59th)!
As if intoxicated, the Swabians, under the direction of Bruno Labbadia, then pushed for the 3-0 and the final decision.

That followed in the final phase! Completely without resistance and under the friendly personal protection of Jeff Chabot, Coulibaly chased the ball into the net to make it 3-0 (75th), and made the heaviest carnival defeat for FC since 2007 perfect.
Effzeh can make amends next Saturday (February 25) in the home game against VfL Wolfsburg. VfB, on the other hand, then travels to the away game at Schalke 04 (6.30 p.m.).
