A year ago, Hamburger SV was fifth in the table with 34 points before the 21st match day. This year, the hopeful for promotion has seven points more in second place.

“It’s not just the points that count,” emphasized Walter on Friday. “It’s also the way we perform. We have a lot more trust in each other. The lads have a lot more faith in their own strength.”

The 47-year-old also pointed out the special cohesion within the team. “The boys all want to play. Nevertheless, there is healthy competition between boys who like each other very, very much,” said Walter, who has been at HSV since summer 2021. “That’s the important thing, that we’re a good team, that we have a good harmony. And that has to grow. The time we’ve spent together obviously serves that purpose.”

In any case, the popularity of the fans is unbroken. Two days before the game on Sunday (1.30 p.m. / Sky) against the table 16. Arminia Bielefeld had already sold more than 55,000 tickets.

“That speaks for us. That speaks for HSV. I think people enjoy coming to us. They want to see a spectacle,” said Walter. “The Dino delivers great cinema.”
