In the 66th minute of the football game, three banners with insults against the 49-year-old were shown in the guest block.
Among other things, there were sayings like “Red Bull heals burnout! Eberl, the sow becomes a bull pig!” or to read “Chemistry & Loco only”.
Eberl had already been insulted in a similar way during the Saxony game at 1. FC Köln last week. There, too, banners with a derisive reference to his illness had caused many public discussions.
Emotional rose stinky after RB Leipzig’s offside compensation: “I just don’t understand it!”
RB trainer Marco Rose (46) stood in front of his sports director after the defeat – and clearly against those responsible for the banners: “How long do we actually want to offer the hollow rollers a platform? Let’s stop giving these guys the opportunity give to read about themselves.”
For Union coach Urs Fischer (56), such banners “do not work at all. I have no respect for Max Eberl as a person. I cannot understand that, I almost have to apologize.”
Eberl resigned from Borussia Mönchengladbach in January 2022 for health reasons. He then spoke openly about his illness and switched to RB Leipzig on December 1st. The move to the Saxons had been heavily criticized in fan circles because of the rejection of the RB business model.
Even apart from the abusive posters, it was not a good evening for the Red Bulls: They lost 2-1 (1-0) to Union Berlin.
