Although we still don’t know officially whether or not Lady Gaga will play Harley Quinn in Joker: Folie à Deux, we can almost take it for granted. But be careful, because some information suggests that this version of the character will have an important difference from the comics (and other representations seen) that the most staunch fans are not liking too much.
According to The Direct, insider KC Walsh has commented through Twitter that the story of Harley Quinn in Joker: Folie à Deux places it as One more patient at Arkham Asyluminstead of being one of the doctors treating Joker who ends up falling in love with him.
It may not be exactly the same as the original character’s story, but if true, it would make all the sense in the world.
The very title of the Joker sequel, Folie à Deux, refers to a mental condition that two people experience simultaneously. This has led to speculation about the story of the next film being that both Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker and Lady Gaga’s (we assume) Harley Quinn experience that condition and fall in love.
Therefore, it makes a lot more sense for Harley Quinn to be a patient, just like Joker, instead of a female doctor. The game and the interpretation to be able to play with this condition would be much easier and would make more sense. Yes, despite the fact that the most fans of the character’s original history may be annoyed.
Besides, there is still the possibility that Lady Gaga will not play Harley Quinn as such, or at least to the same character that we all know and associate with his name.
We were recently able to see the first image of Lady Gaga in Joker: Folie à Deux, which will serve as a sequel to the film that helped Joaquin Phoenix win the Oscar for best leading actor. The film is scheduled to premiere on October 4, 2024, and it seems that it will embrace the musical genre.
